Nyasare Water Supply & Sanitation. Co. Ltd secured funding from Water Sector Trust Fund (WSTF) through the Government of Kenya & Germany Development Bank (KfW) to finance Urban Water & Sanitation Projects. Nyasare Water Supply & Sanitation in collaboration with the County Departments of Public Health & water developed proposal for the WSTF- UPC 8th call that was accepted & approved.The project was approved & contract signed in April, 2022 for a period of 12 months.

Objective of the project

  • Construction of a modern Water Borne Toilet Facility at Migori Market place due to open defecation and insufficient Toilets at the Market place to improve public sanitation.
  • The project will serve population of 800 people in urban low income area, traders& market goers.

The project is co-funded by the Government of Kenya- WSTF, Migori County Government &Nyasare Water supply. WSTF raised 84% of project cost, Migori County Gov.provide land (site) &Nyasare Water Supply 16% of project cost.

In order to accomplish this objective, Hon Christopher Odhiambo Rusana,the CECM for Water & Energy Department official launched the modern water borne toilet facility at Suna Marindi Market , Suna West Sub County on 17/05/ 2023.The facility has been constructed with the aim of enhancing public sanitation & will yield several benefits for the local residents including:-

  1. Prevent diseased such as cholera
  2. Contribute to the promotion of public dignity by proving to access to clean and well maintained toilets.
  3. Income generating activity to the community.
  4. One stop sanitation shop &M-Pesa services
  5. The project will foster environmental sustainability.
  6. The facility will cater for diverse range of individuals including marginalized population, informal settlers, low income communities, traders & market goers.
  7. The facility will provide menstrual hygiene management products; dispose services & room for privacy.

Senior County Government officials who attended the launch included Hon. Mercy Okwanyo the CECM of Trade Tourism, Industrialization & cooperative Development, on John Kobado the CECM for lands, Housing & Urban Development, officials from the National Government, WSTF,Public Health Officials, NYAWASSCO, MIWASCO, Market Traders,Western Kenya Water & Sanitation Project were also present.
